General Information

Marine Accidents Inquiry Association was established on July 1,1968, which is under jurisdiction of Minister for Land , Infrastructure and Transport .
The purpose of Marine Accidents Inquiry Association is to commit to develop marine affairs, by contributing marine accidents preventive measures by conducting study and survey about marine accidents inquiry and case of marine accidents inquiry, and conducing appropriate management of marine accidents inquiry by protecting the rights of people concerned.

 

Organization

Marine Accidents Inquiry Association is constituted by headquarter(Tokyo) and branch offices(Sapporo in Hokkaido and seven others). Moreover, Marine Accidents Advisor's Offices are opened at each place, where Marine Accidents Inquiry Agency is located(9 offices in Japan).

Activities

Marine Accidents Inquiry Association conducts following activities.

Rights protection of people concerned to marine accidents inquiry

(1) Consulting of marine accident inquiry Marine Accidents Advisor's Office gives advise to every marine accidents inquiry and provides guidance how to prevent marine accidents.

(2) Providing monetary assistance to marine accidents inquiry Marine Accidents Inquiry Association provides necessary cost to those Concerned in the marine accidents inquiry, whose income is insufficient to select counsellor.

 

Study and survey about marine accidents inquiry and so on

(1) Study of Marine Accidents Inquiry Law and so on Marine Accidents Inquiry Association conducts study and survey on Marine Accidents Inquiry Law, and institution and actual management of marine accidents investigation in foreign countries.

(2) To invite public contribution of thesis Marine Accidents Inquiry Association invites public contribution of thesis about marine accidents inquiry and a case of marine accidents inquiry, then commends and gives a prize to an excellent one.(This activity discontinues now)

 

Promotion of public understanding about marine accidents inquiry

(1) Publish of judgement record of Marine Accident Tribunal
Judgements of all marine accidents inquiry case are entered.

(2) Publish of precedents of Marine Accident Tribunal
Main judgements of marine accidents inquiry cases are selected, to which Judged items, track chart etc. are attached.

(3) Publish of bulletin "Marine Accidents & Inquiry"
"Marine Accidents & Inquiry" is a magazine, published four times a year, in which activities of Marine Accidents Inquiry Association, study of marine accidents inquiry etc. are reported.

(4) Others
Marine Accidents Inquiry Association flushes a judgement of an important case, and produces videos and holds a lectures to prevent marine accidents.
